UPDATE: Mr Goheer has asked us to make clear that he was found not guilty on these charges. Our report on the conclusion of the court case can be found here.

A 22-YEAR-OLD man told a 12-year-old girl he had groomed online to “forget about” being underage before raping her twice in a Bradford hotel room, a jury heard.

Fahad Goheer is also accused of telling the girl, who cannot be identified, to “watch her back” if she did not give in to his demands.

Goheer is standing trial at Bradford Crown Court charged with two counts of the rape of a child under the age of 13 and an offence of meeting a child following sexual grooming.

Prosecutor Stephen Wood told the jury that because of the girl’s age, there is “no consent to sexual intercourse arising in this case, it is irrelevant”.

Mr Wood said that on January 21, the girl had been dropped off in Bradford at about 5pm after telling her family she was going to a friend’s birthday party.

She did not return home until about 9.30pm, when she admitted to relatives that she had met a man who had travelled to the city from Rochdale.

Two days later, she was taken to hospital suffering from vaginal bleeding and stomach pains.

The following day, officers from the police child sexual exploitation (CSE) unit spoke to the girl and she said she had met a man she had been talking to on a phone app called Periscope.

In an interview with police from January 25, which was shown to the jury, the girl said she had joined Periscope in August last year.

She said she started talking directly to Goheer, of Fenton Street, Rochdale, on December 9, and said that on January 20, he had asked for her number and they had spoken on the phone.

She said he was confiding in her about a recent break-up and asked to meet her as he was coming to Bradford the following day.

The girl said that when Goheer asked her: “How old are you?”, she replied: “I’m underage”, to which he replied: “Oh forget about that.”

She said he then told her: “You better meet up or watch what happens to you”, which she said had “scared” her.

At about 6pm the next day, the girl said she met Goheer at the Forster Square Retail Park in Bradford.

After stopping at Tesco's store, she said they walked to the Ibis Budget hotel in Prince Court, off Canal Road, where Goheer checked them into a room.

The girl said Goheer had told her to use a false date of birth, telling staff she had been born in 1997.

After a brief period in the room, the girl said Goheer took her to a nearby garage, where he bought two bottles of Ribena and a packet of condoms.

After returning to the room, she said he undressed and lay down on the bed, asking her: “Why are you not getting in?

The girl said: “He held my hands down so I couldn’t push him away. He put that thing into me. It was really painful.”

She said she felt “disgusted” and had told Goheer to “get off and leave me alone”, but was just told to “shut up”.

The girl said that Goheer raped her twice, with the stay in the room lasting more than two hours.

After the second time, she said Goheer had taken her phone and read messages from family members asking about her whereabouts.

She said he told her: “Don’t you dare tell anyone what I’ve just done to you. I’ll go down for good and I’ll get someone on you. If you do tell them, watch your back, because something bad will happen to you.”

The pair left the hotel in a taxi and the girl was dropped off near her home.

After she admitted meeting a man, her brothers rang Goheer to try to speak to him.

The jury heard that one message from him later sent to the girl’s number read: “Why did you tell them? Just stick to your story.”

The girl told police she didn’t know the man’s age but thought he was “over 18, maybe 19”.

On January 25, police went to the Ibis hotel where staff had a photocopy of Goheer’s driving licence, which he had used as identification.

Goheer was arrested in Rochdale and the girl picked him out from a video ID parade.

Mr Wood said police had proof of telephone calls and text messages between Goheer and the girl, bank details of a train ticket from Rochdale to Bradford, and CCTV footage of the defendant and the girl checking in and out of the hotel.

He said officers also had a receipt from the garage where Goheer is said to have bought the drinks and condoms.

He gave two 'no comment' interviews to police and Mr Wood told the jury: “The reason the defendant did not answer police is that he had no answers to these allegations.”

He said Goheer had taken the girl to the hotel with the “intention of having sexual intercourse with her”.

The trial continues.
