A REVIVED village gala has been hailed as a huge success.

Crowds lined the procession route and packed into the field for the Lees cum Cross Roads event.

Organisers of Saturday's (July 8) gala, which was back after a five-year absence, were delighted with how it went.

"The sun was shining all day – which made it nice whilst setting-up – and the whole event was a fantastic success," said a spokesman.

"It was great to see so many people come out to watch the parade go by.

"And as we entered the field, the queue for the gate was right up to Vale Mill Road!"

The procession – led by the Yorkshire Imperial Band – made its way from the Church of the Latter-day Saints to the gala field, at Lees School.

There was an array of attractions at the field.

The band played, there were many stalls and games, a tombola, bouncy castle and refreshment and beer tent.

Countless local organisations were involved – including the uniformed youth groups, Friends of Cross Roads Park, the churches, Yorkshire Cat Rescue, Haworth Riding for the Disabled and Men of Worth Project.

Numerous businesses also gave their support, with sponsorship and donations.

"We would like to say a huge thank-you to everyone who supported the event in any way – we are extremely grateful," said the spokesman.

"Thanks also go to Bradford Council and Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council for grants they awarded to help make the day possible.

"And finally, thanks to all committee members and friends who helped on the day – we couldn't have done it without you.

"We need more willing volunteers next year, when we plan to make the event even better!"
