LOCAL emergency service groups hosted a summer event that gave hundreds of families a fun day out in the sun.
Held in the West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service HQ in Birkenshaw on Saturday, the Emergency Services Show saw demonstrations to let people see what life as a fire fighter is really like. They including how to cut someone out of a damaged car and a line rescue demonstration, and firefighters also gave important safety advice to visitors.
Families also enjoyed the fairground stalls, rides and a performance and parade by The West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Band.
Chief Fire Officer John Roberts said: “This event appears to have been a great success in West Yorkshire over the years. Not only does it give the public an insight into the various roles and specialisms of the emergency services, it also raises money for some very worthwhile charities."
The proceeds of this year’s event will go to The Firefighters Charity and Yorkshire Children’s Trust.
