BRADFORDIANS are uniting to raise cash for the victims and bereaved families of the Manchester Arena bomb attack.

Otley mum Wendy Fawell was among the 22 killed in the terror attack in May, and many people from Bradford were injured.

Now a team from Bradford are preparing to cycle to Manchester to show support for the city and raise money for those left bereaved or injured.

Police officers, local councillors and mosque worshippers are among those who have already signed up for the epic trans-Pennine cycle later this month.

The group of cyclists will ride out on July 29, passing through Halifax, Todmorden and Rochdale on the 42-mile journey before being welcomed to Manchester by its elected mayor, Andy Burnham.

The ride has been organised by Bradford community co-ordinator Rifaqat Ali, who said: “We all want to show how unity and respect are important in overcoming hate and violence. We also want to raise money for those who have been affected by the terrible events that took place in Manchester.”

Councillor Abid Hussain, Lord Mayor of Bradford, wished the organisers luck when he met them today.

He said: "Manchester and Bradford are two great cities with a very proud history.

"This bike ride shows how the people who live in Bradford want to stand in solidarity and support with the victims of the Manchester attack. I want to thank all the cyclists taking part in the ride.”
