A JUDGE has jailed a 50-year-old sex offender for 20 months after he downloaded more than 1,000 indecent images of children.

Jacob Riley was made the subject of an indefinite sexual offences prevention order back in 2012 for previous child porn offences and he was supposed to tell the police and probation service if he got any more computer equipment.

But Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday that when officers carried out a compliance check at his flat in Little Horton Green last October Riley handed over a laptop he had not told them about.

Prosecutor Andrew Horton said officers searched the premises and found two other laptops in a bedroom.

When the computer equipment was analysed police found 1,000 indecent images, most of them in the lowest category of seriousness, as well as more than 120 extreme porn images involving adults and animals.

Mr Horton said extreme porn DVDs, again involving animals and adults, were also seized as well as "cartoon images" depicting sexual acts.

Riley, who was given a three-year community order back in 2012, pleaded guilty to charges relating to his possession of the indecent and extreme images and DVDs as well as breaching the terms of the sexual offences prevention order.

In mitigation, his solicitor advocate Ashok Khullar said Riley was facing his first custodial sentence and he would be a vulnerable person in such a setting.

After reading a psychological report on Riley, Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC accepted that he would vulnerable in prison, but he said a further community order or a suspended prison sentence would be wholly inappropriate in his case.

The judge imposed ten months in jail for the possession offences with an additional ten months for the breach of the sexual offences prevention order.

The judge imposed a new sexual harm prevention order and told Riley he must register as a sex offender with the police for the next ten years.
