AN apprentice from Incommunities has been celebrating after scooping his second award of the year.

Jordan Kitching, from Eccleshill, has won the Regional SkillBuild competition for plastering and dry walling systems held at Leeds College of Building last month.

The 20-year-old beat four other plasterers to claim the prize, and he will now go on to the national finals later this year where he will compete against some of the country’s best apprentices.

At the finals, which take place at the NEC in Birmingham from Thursday, November 16, to Saturday, November 18, the third year construction apprentice will face other apprentices from 14 other regions.

The win follows on from Mr Kitching picking up the Incommunities Apprentice of the Year award in April, where he also won the Main Trades Award.

He said: “I’m thrilled to win the competition and go forward to the national finals.

“We were tested in our plastering skills and also our metal stud work which I’d not tried before. It was great to come out top, I didn’t think I had a chance!”

Tony Thompson, Incommunities’ construction skills training manager, who manages the social housing provider’s apprenticeship programme, added: “We are all very proud of Jordan’s achievements.

“His performance has been exceptional since day one.

“He sets a very high standard for himself and is always looking at ways to improve his skills and make a positive contribution as a valued team player.

“It’s fingers crossed now for Jordan in the national finals.”

Mr Kitching joined Incommunities in 2014, and will complete his apprenticeship in August.
