COMMUTERS travelling into Bradford this morning faced long delays after a crash on the M62 forced the motorway to close.

The M62 in West Yorkshire was closed eastbound between J24 (Ainley Top) and J25 (Brighouse) due to a three-vehicle collision involving a car and two lorries in the early hours.

The motorway was reopened just before 9am but hour-long tailbacks remained back to junction 22 before traffic cleared.

West Yorkshire Police and Highways England traffic officers dealt with the incident which involved an extensive oil spillage with debris across all lanes.

The incident caused knock-on traffic chaos thoughout West Yorkshire.

One motorist, who commutes from the Holme Valley area of Kirklees to Bradford, told the T&A: "The knock-on effect is dreadful on the surrounding routes.

"Roads through Brighouse, Cooper Bridge and Rastrick are gridlocked.

"Whichever way you try to go, you're stuffed.

"It's such a busy section of the M62, so a complete eastbound closure in rush hour throws the whole network into chaos."

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Google Maps shows gridlocked roads surrounding the M62 closure at 8.10am.

Motorists should allow additional travelling time if heading towards the area.
