MORE than 60 Eid gifts have been handed over to Bradford Hospitals Children's Charity to help make poorly children smile.

It was the fifth year Manningham man Nazim Ali organised the initiative and this time he was sponsored by Shiraz Ahmed who is Managing Director of Bradford-based Saveco Cash and Carry.

The gifts included cuddly toys, DVDs, play sets and sports equipment.

Mr Ali said although Eid is a time of celebration for Muslims it is also a time when Muslims should support the most vulnerable people in society.

He added: "I spent a large part of my early childhood in the Children's Ward in Bradford Royal Infirmary due to my struggle with Tuburculosis and I know too well how at times you feel the loneliness and miss being at home with your family and playing with your friends. I am thankful with the amazing care of the BRI Children's Ward I made a full recovery.

"I commend Shiraz Ahmed of Saveco Cash & Carry for selflessly purchasing all these beautiful Eid Gifts for the children so that they can rejoice because the period of Eid is all about thinking of the most vulnerable and taking measures to support them and therefore Eid is a community celebration."

Hayley Collis, Head of Fundraising for Bradford Hospitals Charity, said: "We are incredibly grateful to Nazim and his charity partner Saveco Cash & Carry for giving gifts for the festive celebration of Eid. It is a time that can be difficult not only for the poorly children but also their families as they feel they are missing out and to receive gifts on Eid is wonderful."
