AFTER a freak accident at Windhill, the last two Cross Roads & Daisy Hill batsmen were knocked unconscious as they collided with each other in the final over of their match against Crossflatts in the Bradford & District Evening League.

Needing 25 to win, Leon Flerin and Matthew Marshall set off for quick runs off the first ball of the over, and with eyes fixed on where the ball had gone, they collided with each other, rendering each other unconscious.

Cross Roads & Daisy Hill secretary Bryan Greenwood has confirmed that both players have suffered no lasting damage and have fully recovered, and expressed his thanks to the umpires (David Shepherd and Glen Sewell) and the Crossflatts players for their quick response and concern immediately following the incident.

Unfortunately, the laws of the game dictated that both batsmen were recorded as retired not out (injured), and as no further batsmen were available to come in, their innings was considered closed on 115-8 (Matthew Marshall 26no, Joe Lynch 3-6).

The result of the game was therefore a win for Crossflatts, who had earlier made 139-8 (Ahtasham Raza 50no, Dom Bennett 29).

Elsewhere in Division Two, Hepworth & Idle made short work of notching up their eighth success of the season by skittling out Cambing for just 72, despite a spirited 36 from opener Jamil Quereshi, which had Cambing well placed for a big score on 60-2 at one stage.

Having taken 3-3 with the ball, all-rounder Kevin McDermott then chipped in with 30 not out to see the Westfield Laners home on 73-2 from just 10.3 overs.

John Breare remain joint second with Crossflatts, despite going down to an in-form Raja’s.

New signing, Bradford & Bingley overseas player Noman Ali, took 4-24 as Breare were restricted to 92-6 from their 16 overs, with Ben Waller top scoring with 25 not out.

Mohammed Shoaib (33) and Ali (27) then led the way as Raja’s reached their target for the loss of five wickets with three overs to spare as Alex West took 3-20.

Ben Burkill was the star for Great Horton Park Chapel as they overcame Bradshaw by nine wickets.

First Burkill took 3-17 as the Halifax outfit were reduced to 88-7 from their 16 overs.

He then made 35 not out, which, together with 33 from fellow opener Nicolas Flood, helped Chapel home on 89-1.

In Division One, leaders Adil Rashid Cricket Academy returned to winning ways after last week’s defeat to Ciroc by smashing the day’s top score of 190-7 from 18 overs at Thornton (Osama Ahmed 48no, Mohammed Bilal 35, Sami Rehman 31, Adam Ahmed 27).

Greg Soames did his best to limit the onslaught with 3-38.

Faced with such a mountain to climb, the opening four Thornton batsmen were all dismissed without scoring and only a late 51 from No 9 Ross Parr added some respectability to the score as Thornton ended on 101 all out.

Ciroc moved clear into second with victory over Denholme at the Karmand Centre.

Skipper Richard Wear again top-scored for Denholme with 31 as the visitors posted a below-par 97-8 from 16 overs with Ciroc’s new signing, Hanging Heaton overseas Mohammed Rameez, taking 4-23.

Denholme fought hard to defend their total and took the game to the last over before Ciroc finally triumphed on 98-6 (Bilal Ejaz 31).

Salem Athletic moved menacingly into third, with a game in hand over the top two, with a four-wicket victory over Greenfield.

The visitors were bowled out for 106 from 16.4 overs, with Adnan Mahmood top scoring with 28 and Ossett's overseas player Khalid Usman taking 3-12.

Greenfield had Salem Athletic tottering on 69-6 before Khalid Usman (44) and Waqas Ahmed (30no) saw them home on 107-6 with four overs to spare.

This defeat meant that Greenfield slipped into the relegation place with five points, although a win next week could see them leapfrog back into third, such is the competitive nature of the league this season.

Shelf, who had a free week, find themselves handily placed in fourth with a game in hand.
