THE world’s largest travel website has presented Bradford’s City Park with a Certificate of Excellence.

TripAdvisor handed the new accolade to the city centre landmark in recognition of its consistently high customer reviews.

And the site has also promised to fix a mistake which means the six-acre City Park and its large mirror pool are listed as being in the tiny village of Bradford in Devon, which has a population of just 359.

The quirky error means City Park was not appearing in TripAdvisor’s list of things to do in Bradford, a guide it provides for anyone planning to visit the district.

A spokesman for TripAdvisor thanked the Telegraph & Argus for flagging up the mistake, adding: “As listings can be created by our community, sometimes location errors like this can arise. However, once we are made aware we can rectify very quickly.”

Bradford Council, which built the public open space in a major regeneration project five years ago, welcomed its new accolade.

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “We are very proud to receive TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence.

“A huge amount of effort went into developing City Park and staff continue to work hard behind the scenes to ensure the space delivers a world-class experience.”

Local attractions which already hold Certificates of Excellence include Saltaire village, Bingley Five-Rise locks, the Alhambra Theatre and the National Science and Media Museum.

The spokesman for TripAdvisor said this week they had handed out their 2017 Certificates of Excellence to all qualifying businesses and attractions.

She said: “The Certificate of Excellence honours hospitality businesses that deliver consistently great service. The achievement is presented to establishments that have consistently earned great traveller reviews on TripAdvisor over the past year.

“Establishments earning the Certificate of Excellence are located all over the world and have continually delivered a superior customer experience.

“To qualify for the Certificate of Excellence, a business must maintain an overall TripAdvisor bubble rating of at least four out of five, have a minimum number of reviews and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months.”

Since it opened in 2012, City Park has been visited 25 million times. It has picked up a host of awards, including the Urban Design Group’s project of the year award and the LUX Urban Lighting project of the year.

It currently has a TripAdvisor customer rating of four stars, or ‘bubbles’, out of five.

Visitor reviews include one from user Melster35, who said: “Fantastic fun to be had here and the kids always love having a splash about here on a sunny day. It’s a huge space and really seems to bring people together.”

And Fueng2768 said: “Visited with our granddaughter on a hot summers day. Very busy with children and teenagers of all ages, having a great time frolicking in the water. Surrounded by cafes, bars, and restaurants, if there is a need for food or a drink. Well worth a visit.”

But not everyone is convinced of its merits.

One reviewer, Retth1906k, said: “This attraction is ok but it’s difficult to see what the pleasure of it is. There’s lots of children around it’s basically a very large paddling pool not really worth taking time out to visit.”
