THE winner of a £1,000 Telegraph & Argus prize giveaway says she is going to treat her children with her windfall.

Eileen Hayden, of Wrose Grove, Wrose, took part in the competition which ran over six days in the paper and offered readers the chance to win a handful of cash in time for summer.

Readers clipped coupons from each of the editions and sent them along and the winner plucked from the hat.

Mrs Hayden, who was accompanied by her daughter, Mary, to accept her prize said she was “amazed” to have won.

“I don’t think I’ve ever won anything before,” she said. “It is amazing. I thought I would enter the competition to give it a go but never at all expected I would win.

“I’m not sure what I am going to spend it all on yet but I will probably treat my three sons and daughter to a nice meal to celebrate.

“I have quite bad arthritis and struggle to get about. My children really help me and run me places because I can’t walk very far.

“This will be a nice way of saying thank you to them and give us all a treat.”
