A HISTORIC structure in Peel Park, Bradford, will have protective gates installed after becoming a magnet for anti-social behaviour.

Bradford Council had submitted the plans for the Grade II listed building which stands near the park's lake.

The building was installed in the park in 1926, but its main features were re-built from a much earlier building, Bradford Hall which was originally sited on Kirkgate in Bradford city centre and dates back to 1705.

The Council had said something needed to be done to prevent vandalism of the building, adding: "It’s important that action is taken to preserve the internal structure for future generations."

Planning officers have now approved the application, saying: "The structure has been subject to vandalism and anti-social behaviour, hence the need for security gates to protect its historic fabric.

"The gates will help to overcome the issues of vandalism with minimal intervention with the historic fabric of the structure."
