STEETON failed to cash in after winning the toss at Follifoot and understandably opting to bat in Aire-Wharfe League Division Two.

Although Freddie Pearson (19), Tom Stead (28) and Craig Walton (30) contributed, they were 38-3 and 98-6 before Jake Starkey (36, including seven fours) added 49 with James Emmott (19).

However, the innings folded for a below-par 154 after they were parted, with former Green Lane star Istikhar Hussain taking 5-27.

Follifoot didn't find it easy either and were 58-3 (Paul Hardwick 2-42), and it could have been worse as Steeton were convinced that they had opener Matthew Williams caught behind before he had scored.

Steeton's man of the match Joe Stead (3-38) dismantled the hosts' middle order but, aided by Williams (68), Follifoot won by two wickets with 11 overs to spare.

John Akrigg and Freddie Pearson shared the fielding point for Steeton, who are ninth.

In Division Three, where only four points separate second, third and fourth, Harden remain third with a game in hand after beating Menston in a close encounter.

No-one made a sizeable contribution to Harden's 175, although Mark Portlock (48) led the way, helped by Tom Stordy (25) and Joshua Brooksbank and James Roper, who both made 24.

Doug Bradley (64) was more of a lone star when Menston replied, and that was crucial as they only totalled 165, with Paul Quinlan taking 4-50 and Scott Hartley 3-23.

In the First Division for second teams, leaders Beckwithshaw travelled with confidence to bottom-of-the-table Steeton.

However, they did not count on man of the match Andrew Luxton being in form with bat and ball after the hosts won the toss and had first knock.

After being involved in a run out on 'Nelson' (111) with his brother and opening bat Chris (55), who put on 61 for the first wicket with Aatif Modak (28), Andrew made a-run-a-ball 76 in Steeton's 257-6, adding 107 for the fourth wicket with Luke Watson (50 from 53 deliveries).

Beckwithshaw then seemed to suffer from having chased leather for 50 overs in the sun, and were spun out for 169 by accurate off-spinner Zaggy Pearson (3-32 off 15 overs), who opened the bowling, and leg-spinner Andrew Luxton (5-55 from 15).

Luke Watson took three skiers, with Aatif Modak also getting a fielding point as Steeton climbed three places, leaving Burley and Collingham in the relegation berths.

In the Second Division, Steve Gardner (4-44), Liam Kelly (4-56) and Robin Hopwood (2-38) took all the wickets as hosts Skipton were dismissed for 183.

However, Harden could only make 124 in reply, with Hasnehn Haider having the only significant contribution with 39.
