A POIGNANT service began a number of events in Bradford to commemorate Armed Forces Week.
Around 200 people gathered in Centenary Square today for the annual flag raising ceremony, which was carried out by the Lord Mayort of Bradford, Councillor Abid Hussain.
Members of veterans’ organisations, including the Royal British Legion Bradford Central branch, gathered with their standards, alongside residents, councillors and council officials.
This was preceded by a one minute’s silence to remember the victims of the Grenfell Tower flat fire in London.
A group of around 60 veterans from across the Bradford district will be honoured on Friday, with a lunch hosted by the Deputy Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Doreen Lee, in the Banqueting Hall in City Hall.
Events will finish with the annual Armed Forces Day drumhead service and concert in Centenary Square and City Park on Saturday, from 11am.
