THE UK tour of a play starring Hollywood legends Ryan O'Neal and Ali MacGraw, due in Bradford this summer, has been postponed.

Love Letters was due at the Alhambra from September 25 - 30, following a critically-acclaimed Broadway run and a sell-out US tour.

It is about two friends, Andrew Makepeace Ladd III (O’Neal), and Melissa Gardner (MacGraw) who start writing to each other aged seven. For the next 50 years, through personal triumphs and despair, through wars, marriages, children and careers, they pour out their heartfelt secrets to each other.

Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neal achieved international fame with 1970 movie, Love Story. MacGraw went on to star in The Getaway.

O’Neal began his screen career as a stuntman then appeared on long-running US TV show Peyton Place and films like What’s Up Doc and The Driver.

David Ian, from the production company, said: “The UK tour of Love Letters due to open this September, is unfortunately postponed due to Ryan O’Neal requiring back surgery and a period of postoperative recovery. We send Ryan our best wishes and hope he has a speedy recuperation.

"We advise audiences to contact their point of purchase for further information.”

Tickets went on sale earlier this year as part of Bradford Theatres’ Autumn 2017 season. Bradford Theatres are currently notifying customers and will provide full refunds to those who had booked to see the show.
