A BRADFORD man, who threatened to post sexual photos on the internet of a woman he is alleged to have tried to rape, told a jury he never had any pictures of her.

Kardir Ali, 21, of Blenheim Mount, Manningham Lane, Bradford, has denied two offences of attempted rape last year. The prosecution alleges the offences took place when he met the woman in a wooded area of Bradford

But the jury at Bradford Crown Court was told Ali had pleaded guilty to a charge of blackmail.

Prosecutor David Hall said the woman alleged Ali pulled down her clothing and twice tried to rape her. He told the court that the alleged victim claimed he held her tightly but she managed to wriggle enough to prevent him forcing her to have sex.

She claimed she kept telling him “no” and he became angry when she resisted him. But Ali told the jury today that all the sexual activity was consensual. He said the woman had agreed to perform a sex act on him and then agreed to him simulating sex with her.

But questioned by his barrister Rebecca Young, Ali denied trying to rape the woman at any stage.

“Did you try to force yourself upon her in any way?” asked Miss Young.

Ali replied: “Not at all, no.”

He said she did not tell him to stop at any time and he did not physically restrain her. Ali declined to answer questions when arrested and interviewed by police, but he made a prepared statement which said the sexual activity was consensual. He told the jury he was scared and had been given legal advice not to comment.

The jury was told Ali had pleaded guilty to a charge of blackmail, after he demanded £500 to stop him publishing videos and pictures of intimate acts between them.

Questioned by Miss Young, Ali said he accepted telling her he had pictures of her and if she did not give him money he would upload them on to the internet. He said he was angry and upset by the whole situation. He added: “It was just a stupid mistake. I am disgusted by it, I am embarrassed by it. The only thing I’ve wanted to do since was apologise to her because I knew I’d upset her. I didn’t have any pictures of her. I just made that up.”

Cross-examined by Mr Hall, Ali denied forcing the woman into sexual activity and said: “If you don’t ask, you don’t get.”

He added: “It was her own choice. Everything we did was consensual.”

Mr Hall said: “You are a bully, a liar, a blackmailer and a would-be rapist, aren’t you?” Ali replied: “I am not an attempted rapist.”

The jury will retire to consider its verdicts tomorrow.
