ILKLEY Playhouse's next production is just "too darn hot" to miss out on.

This month the Playhouse presents Kiss Me, Kate - a perfect show for summer, it’s sizzling with energy and as uplifting as a June morning.

The cast have been brushing up on their Shakespeare to create a dazzling production of the much-loved Cole Porter musical, packed with toe-tapping sing-alongs.

The story unfolds around a Baltimore production of The Taming of the Shrew. Feuding actors Fred Graham and Lilli Vanessi, recently divorced, are performing together as Petruchio and Katherine in a Broadway-bound musical version of Shakespeare's comedy, but it's a rocky road along the way,

The show-within-a-show comes complete with gangsters, goofball comedy, high-spirited romance and timeless musical classics including Too Darn Hot, Wunderbar and So In Love.

Kiss Me, Kate runs at Ilkley Playhouse from June 5-17, with a matinee on Saturday, June 10.

The Playhouse is also presenting its first dementia-friendly performance, on Tuesday, June 6. "We working with Dementia Friendly Ilkley and receiving advice from the Alzheimer's Society in Bradford to make this event as accessible as possible," says a spokeswoman. "It includes adaptations to technical aspects of the show, flexible seating options, and a relaxed attitude to audience responses and movement.

"Please contact the office at Ilkley Playhouse for any more information."

There’s more laughter on the horizon with the Playhouse's next Stagefright Comedy night. Seymour Mace, a regular in Johnny Vegas's BBC2 sitcom Ideal and described as a "hybrid of Harry Hill, Half Man Half Biscuit and Viz", will be hitting the stage along with comics Hayley Ellis, a quick-witted ad-libber who’s worked on Russell Howard's Good News, Ryan Brown, a specialist in one liners, and rising star Stu Woodings.

Ilkley’s own Robson Stroud will make his stand-up debut, covering subjects as diverse as cats, superheroes, modern dating, politically correct coffee.
