A PLANNING application has been submitted to Bradford Council for a new assisted living complex in Shelf.

The development, if approved, would see two residential buildings erected, one for supported living, and one for higher complex care accommodation.

The first building would be made up of 16 one-bedroom self-contained apartments, and the second would be made up of four self-contained apartments, six en-suite bedrooms, a communal lounge, kitchen and dining areas, along with outdoor open space, car parking, external bins, and scooter storage facilities.

The development would be situated in Manorley Lane in Shelf on a brownfield site, and carried out by HB Villages, which specialises in supported living accommodation for vulnerable adults with a range of disabilities.

It would be managed and operated by Inclusion Housing, and Lifeways would provide on-site support.

The plan’s design and access statement says: “The accommodation will provide high quality apartments for individuals with a range of support needs, including physical and learning disabilities, to enable them to live as normal and as independent life as possible. Whatever support they need, staff will available on a 24-hour basis.

“The scheme will provide much needed self-contained specialised supported housing for adults with disabilities. It will also create a number of new jobs, with staff usually sourced from the local labour pool.”

Public consultation is open until Friday, June 23. To comment, visit the Council’s planning website or write to the Planning Service at Britannia House, Hall Ings BD1 1HX.
