STAFF and pupils at a Bradford primary school are celebrating the opening of an outdoor area.

They gathered outside Westminster CE Primary School in Undercliffe for a garden party, ribbon cutting ceremony and entertainment from older children at the school.

The new outdoor area will provide Early Years outdoor provision at the school.

Head teacher Nicky White said the new area will give the school's pupils the "best possible start to their education".

Miss White said: "Westminster CE Primary Academy has invested £51,000 in improving its early years outdoor provision.

"The playground was designed by an early years consultant to ensure that learning is accelerated through a vast variety of resources.

"The development has some amazing features including a castle and moat, a maths shed filled with a large range of natural resources, a mud kitchen, a bug hotel, a large sand pit and dry river beds.

"The school have also invested in improving the indoor provision and the children now have a range of resources that ensure that learning is maximised."

Egg sandwiches and cakes were served to guests at the party.

Ashley Reed, finance director at the Bradford Diocesan Academies Trust, cut the ribbon, and Miss White said a prayer to bless the area.
