WITH the heart-stopping drama of Guiseley’s escape from relegation on the final day of last term having receded, the Lions enjoyed their end-of-season awards night at Otley Golf Club.

Adam Lockwood’s men drew their last game, thanks to skipper Danny Lowe’s injury-time back-header, but had to wait for over four minutes to discover their fate as York City’s final game went into stoppage time.

A York goal would have sent Guiseley down but the Minstermen couldn’t force a winner against runners-up and eventual play-off winners Forest Green Rovers.

It may have been a close call but the mood at the awards night was upbeat as the club look forward to a third season at the top table of English non-league football.

Jonny Maxted had already been confirmed as the supporters’ player of the season, collecting his award after the 1-1 draw at home to Solihull Moors on the last day of the season.

Maxted picked up a second gong as he was named players’ player of the season, while Jordan Preston was also a double winner.

He was named sponsors' player of the season and also landed the club’s fair play award.

Lockwood, Dave Penny and the rest of the backroom team dispensed with tradition as they didn’t name a managers’ player of the season, instead giving his award to the entire squad.

The Freda Collinson Award for volunteer of the year went to Jeff Kenure.
