BRADFORD City legend Wayne Jacobs will complete a sponsored skydive next month to raise funds for Bradford City Women.

The Lady Bantams ended their season last week by beating Brighouse Town 3-0 to lift the West Riding County FA Women's Cup for a fourth successive season.

That followed a superb weekend for the junior section, as four teams reached cup finals, and two – the under-tens and under-13s – were crowned champions.

But first-team player-manager and club junior development officer Charlotte Stuart admits that this progress cannot continue without funding.

“We have grown greatly as a club over the past four years,” she said.

“We now have eight junior teams, with over 100 girls playing football weekly, and two senior teams.

“But this growth does come with much greater financial costs, mainly in terms of our training and playing facilities.”

Stuart is therefore delighted with Jacobs’ gesture as he continues his great work in the community and to show support for the women’s team.

“Wayne and myself meet regularly to discuss the club’s progress, and he kindly offered to take part in the skydive,” she explained.

“The funds raised will certainly go far, helping towards the day-to-day running of both the junior and senior side of the club.”

Jacobs will complete the skydive on Sunday, June 25, just a couple of weeks before City plan to return to pre-season training and start preparing for their 2017-18 campaign.

The timing is ideal and will boost the Bantams as they aim to improve on this year’s eighth place finish in the FA Women’s Premier League.

“We’re already looking ahead to next season,” said Stuart.

“Of course it’s always a bonus to win silverware in a bid to attract new players,” she added, reflecting on the County Cup victory

“And then Wayne’s gesture gives us the opportunity to gain funding ahead of our pre-season preparations too.

“Any support and financial help we can gain is greatly appreciated.”
