THE weather was better for Sunday’s Cowling Cup action with play completed in all matches bar the one which saw Cowling II conceding to Ingrow II.

Holders Denholme II moved into the second round with victory over Skipton CI II.

They made 125-8 in their overs with Michel Dennison (49) and Ryan Judson (27no) leading the way as Rob Cockell claimed 3-17.

The Sandylands side closed 12 runs short of their target with William Shuttleworth (57) and Cockell (38) battling valiantly with the bat.

The Westfield Lane side ended up 11 short as Harry Greenhalgh (3-13) Sam Porter (3-15) and Sam Waterhouse (3-20 ) held sway despite 43 from Phillip Haigh.

There was a nail-biting finish at Haworth II where Wilsden II went down by two wickets with the winning runs coming off the last ball of the game.

The Windy Grove side made 115-8 with Gareth Wright (31) and Ben Mitchell (26) being the main contributors as Neil Rollins (3-22) and Graham Aldred (3-34) were the best bowlers.

The Bronte side had Nick Trowers (54) to thank for getting them into a position to take the game by two wickets.

It was similar excitement down at Bradford & Bingley III where they beat Airedale II by one run off the last ball.

Playing on the main pitch Connors Hall Brown (43no) helped the home side to 107-6 in their 20 overs.

Airedale were going great guns through Paul Feather (37) and Warren Coppack (33).

Both fell within a few balls of each other and some hectic scampering between the wickets got the game to the last ball with two wanted to win. The batsman holed out and the Wagon Lane side progressed to the next round.

Ironically Airedale II lost two runs when the umpire called short run on successive balls.

Cononley must have felt comfortable with their 136-7 with Nathan Parker 61no and Peter Hatton (55) setting the platform as Dan Kernan took 4-15.

Riddlesden romped home by seven wickets in the 11th over.

Akeel Rashid (51no) and Nasser Hussain (41no) being the batters in a hurry.
