AN empty building in Bradford City Centre that has been blighted by vandalism, could soon be refurbished.

Bradford Council has granted planning permission to a Mr Rehman to carry out work on 52 Godwin Street.

The plans will see the vacant former Urban Biz shop, refurbished and office space on the upper three floors turned into flats, a two bedroom flat and a three bedroom flat.

His application said: “The building has been empty for a number of years and has suffered recent vandalism and theft.”

Planning officers said: “The principle of the proposal is welcomed as it would allow part of the floors to be occupied, allowing the whole building to be fully operational.

“The proposal would derive a benefit from ensuring a lower floor use ensuring maintenance and upkeep of this building within City Centre conservation area.”
