Paul Thacker, 47, will travel from Benidorm to Alicante Airport and jet in to Gatwick at 9.50am on Saturday in time for the Bantams’ League One showpiece with Millwall.

He will then fly back from Gatwick Airport on Sunday at 5.50am to get back to Spain.

He owns and runs Foley’s Bar in Benidorm with partner Jacqui and has lived there for the last nine-and-a-half years.

The bar in the popular tourist resort has a number of Bantams items on display including a club badge and a City shirt worn by former player Nathan Doyle.

Mr Thacker, who is originally from Great Horton, said this will be only the second time since he has lived in Spain that he has returned to the UK to see City.

But he will be hoping for better luck this time after his previous visit to see the claret and amber side lose 5-0 to Swansea City in the 2013 League Cup Final, again at Wembley.

The former sales rep said: “Because I run the bar it was not feasible for me to come over to Bradford for a few days before the match.

“The regulars in the bar understand why I’m doing it. Most of the people coming into the bar know that I support Bradford.

“They kept saying to me ‘are you going?’ I was confident and booked my flights four weeks ago. Hopefully I will get to see a win. We seem to have a good record at Wembley overall. I follow City online and watch them if they are live on TV. We have had quite a few City fans come into the bar and I would expect we will have a few people come in to watch the match on Saturday.”

Mr Thacker has shown his devotion to the club by holding a fundraising event in aid of the Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit (PSBRU) in 2015.

He hosted a charity day at his bar and had hoped to raise 1,000 Euros for the burns unit, but smashed that target by collecting around 5,300 Euros - £3,798 at the time. Mr Thacker said he had attended a number of City games in the weeks leading up to the Bradford City fire on May 11, 1985, but on the actual day he was being taken to his grandparents in Morecambe - where he lived at the time - and heard the news on the radio.
