EMPTY warehouses and offices next to the newly re-opened Low Moor Station will soon be flattened, and the site could eventually be used as parking for the station.

The empty depot on Dealburn Road, formerly used by Shipley Transport, has been earmarked for demolition by Bradford Council.

The site was used by the contractors working on the train station, which opened early last month.

Since the work ended the site has been empty, and the Council will soon be taking on the site and demolishing the vacant buildings before they became dangerous.

The council has told the Telegraph & Argus that one of the site’s potential future uses could be as an extension to the station’s car park. Currently there is space for 128 cars at the station.

After gaining planning permission to demolish buildings on the land, a warehouse building and loading platform and two pre-fabricated single storey office buildings, the Council says it plans to start work on Monday May 22. Work is expected to last until June 2.

Low Moor Station opened on April 2, and marked the first time trains had stopped there for 50 years.

Earlier this month local politicians said the station had been responsible for a boost in local business, proving a boost for shops and pubs.

On the demolition plans, a spokesman for Bradford Council said: “Following the construction and opening of the Low Moor Railway Station, the former Shipley Transport Depot on Dealburn Road, Low Moor, which had been used by the contractors, is now redundant.

“The council, which will be taking ownership of the site shortly, has decided to demolish the building due to health and safety concerns relating to services to the building and its structural integrity.

“A potential future use for the site as an extension of the car park for Low Moor station has been identified by the council should patronage from Low Moor station exceed the current parking provision.”

James Vasey of the Bradford Rail Users’ Group is confident the station will soon require the extra spaces.

He said: “All new stations take a while to attract the people who will become regular commuters.

“Out of the car parking spaces they have at the moment there are already 40 or so that are used every day. I think in the near future when people see the services are reliable and that it is an effective way to get about the car park will fill up. When it does it is important we have this extra capacity.”

This station will become extremely popular, it will just take a bit of time. We’ve seen it in Apperley Bridge. The car park at the new station there is full in the morning.

“I think it will take a year, maybe two before we will need this extra capacity.”
