THE carers’ support service in the Bradford district is inviting people who look after a relative or friend to share their views.

Carers’ Resource is holding its first Carers Forum at its office in Park View Court, off St Paul’s Road, Shipley, on Wednesday, May 24, from 1.30pm to 3pm.

The forum will:

  • Consider how the service of the Carers’ Resource can be improved to meet the needs of carers more effectively
  • Discuss and comment on local issues that affect carers
  • Discuss national issues and initiatives that affect carers.

The charity offers a wide range of services for carers, those who look after someone with an illness, disability, is frail or has an addiction, to help them cope better and boost their own health and wellbeing.

Chief executive Chris Whiley said: “The forum will give carers the chance to come together to discuss issues which affect them and enable them to better understand how the system works and how they can influence decision makers.

“Caring can be overwhelming and all-consuming and carers can find it difficult to find the time or outlay to speak out and let services know if the support they’re receiving is meeting their needs – this forum will give people the chance to do just that.

“It will give us and carers the opportunity to discuss how we can improve to meet the needs of carers more effectively, as well as discuss any pertinent local or national issues affecting carers.”

The aim is to hold a forum three or four times a year, encouraging more carers to become involved in the organisation and its services.

A forum for Craven carers will also be held at the Carers’ Resource Skipton office at Broughton Hall Business Park on Wednesday, June 21, from 10am to noon.
