THE DAD of a young mum who died from cancer says he is overwhelmed by crowdfunders who are helping pay for her funeral and fulfil her last wish to send her three children to Disneyland.

Michael Temple, 48, from Applehaigh Close in Idle, said wellwishers’ generosity had shocked him since his daughter Charlotte Brett passed away on Sunday.

The 28-year-old leaves behind children Lily, aged five, Leo who is three and Thomas who is just five-months-old.

Charlotte’s friend Jonny Oldfield helped set up the crowdfunding page at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/Charlottelouisebrett to try and raise the £3,000 first needed for her funeral.

But within just 24 hours, that target had been smashed and by yesterday afternoon £5,200 had already been raised with the extra money now being used to get the three youngsters to Disneyland.

Charlotte, who lived in Leeds, fell ill while pregnant with Thomas, who had to be delivered early so she could be treated after being diagnosed with Lymphoma.

Her cancer battle was made even more of a struggle after complications set in, including pneumonia, a stroke and a bleed on her kidney. Doctors gave her the devastating news in December that she had just days to live after contracting an infection which made her too weak for any more surgery.

Mr Temple said: “She was only 29 weeks pregnant when we found out she had cancer.

“She thought a chest infection had turned into some kind of virus giving her back pain but one day it was so unbearable she went to hospital and they did blood tests.

“She rang to say she was scared and they were going to have to bring the baby early.

“She lived for her children and one of her last wishes was that they could go to Disneyland. We hope we can make that come true now.

“We’ve told the children who are now with their dads that their mummy is an angel. We took Thomas to see her just before she died so he will remember her.

“They will all be told just how wonderful and brave their mummy was and how she did her best to stay with them for as long as she could.

“She loved them so much.”

Mr Temple added: “I am just in shock and totally overwhelmed with the generosity of people on the crowfunding page.

“Charlotte will be missed every second of every day.”

Mr Temple also wanted to thank the staff at St James’ Hospital.

He said: “They went over and above to help us and Charlotte.

“They took her handprints and are going to turn them into little necklaces for each of the children.”

Charlotte’s friend Mr Oldfield said: “Charlotte had been battling cancer for a long time, but she never once moaned about it and she fought till the end.

“She was a wonderful woman and the bravest. If you ever had the chance to meet her she would always put a smile on your face. She was a great mother, daughter and sister. She leaves behind three beautiful kids who loved her so much. She will never be far away from us.”
