BRADFORD will be one of the stops on a charity walk led by television presenter Jeff Stelling in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

The presenter of Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports and former host of Countdown will be undertaking the 400-mile trek next month, where he will walk 15 marathons in 15 days.

Mr Stelling is aiming to raise £500,000 on the ‘March for Men’ as he walks from St James Park, home of League Two side Exeter City, to St James’ Park, home of Championship title winners Newcastle United.

The walk is building on last year’s first march, from Victoria Park, the home of Mr Stelling’s beloved Hartlepool United, to Wembley Stadium, which took ten days and raised £420,000.

This year’s walk will begin in Exeter on Friday, June 2, and he will visit more than 40 clubs across the country before finishing the challenge in the North East.

He will be visiting Bradford on day 12 of the challenge, Tuesday, June 13, starting at Oakwell, home of Barnsley FC, before heading north into West Yorkshire and ending the day at Valley Parade, via Bradford Bulls’ home at Odsal.

The walk is part of Prostate Cancer UK’s national walking programme, which is aiming to raise £1 million for the charity through walking events in 2017.

Every year, 15 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in Bradford, and the money raised by the walks will all be used to try and find a cure for the disease. Mr Stelling, 62, said: “After the agony and ecstasy of the walk last year, particularly the agony, so many people have been in touch with stories of their battle against prostate cancer.

“So many people who wanted to say thank you to me and to Prostate Cancer UK for their support. It makes me feel very humble and gratified that I’m in position where I can do something.”

Reflecting on last year’s walk, Angela Culhane, chief executive of Prostate Cancer UK, said: “So many people approached Jeff on the walk to speak about their own courageous battles with prostate cancer, and the fact that they were able to stroll side by side with household names from sport, show business and politics established this as a charity walk like no other.”
