CONCERNS have been expressed after a group of travellers moved onto a popular recreation ground in Bingley.

The travellers are believed to have moved onto the football pitch adjacent to Crossflatts Cricket Club in Keighley Road yesterday afternoon.

There are at least six caravans, along with vans, trucks and a horse box.

Councillor John Pennington (Conservative, Bingley) said: "Clearly we have concerns, sometimes because of the amount of mess they leave behind when they go.

"I do think people would be more tolerant if they left places as clean as they found them.

"It is a long process to move travellers on, but the process will be starting pretty promptly on Tuesday morning."

Bryan Freimanis, secretary of Crossflatts Cricket Club, said the arrival of the group had not affected any matches.

He said: "We have some slight worries, as we don't know how long they are staying for and what they are doing here.

"They could just be passing through, but the reputation caused by some groups of travellers does precede them."
