TWO people have been treated for smoke inhalation after a fire ripped through the roof of a house in Girlington this morning.

Just after 1am West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a fire at a house on Whites View.

Four engines were sent to the scene, and when they arrived saw flames rising from the roof space of one of the three storey terraced houses.

Five females had managed to get out of the house before the crews arrived.

Two of these, a woman in her 70s and a 23 year old, were treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters used an aerial appliance to get closer to the roof of the building from the outside, but even then said they had difficulty getting to the fire. Much of the building's roof had to be removed in order to put out the flames.

Fire investigators are this morning looking into the cause of the blaze.
