PLANS to build an apartment block off Great Horton Road have been refused by Bradford Council.

John Hodgson of P N Bakes Architectural Consultancy had applied to build a three storey block of 18, one bed apartments on an area of land to the South of 607 Great Horton Road.

There would have been parking for eight cars.

The vacant site is next to the former Taison Lighting Warehouse, which already has planning permission for 24 dwellings.

The applicants said the flats would help “address the requirement for affordable homes” locally, and would be ideal for single people or older people looking to downsize.

Planning officers refused the application for a number of reasons, including poor vehicular and pedestrian access, and the fact that the flats would be in too close to neighbouring buildings.

They also said the application had no details on potential contamination to the site.
