MOTORISTS have been urged to plan ahead as road closures are announced for stage three of the Tour de Yorkshire, which begins in Bradford’s City Park on Sunday.

Sunbridge Road (Godwin Street to Aldermanbury), Bridge Street (between Hall Ings and Aldermanbury), Tyrell Street, Hustlergate, Market Street, Bank Street, Broadway and Hall Ings (Jacobs Well to Drake Street) will all be closed from 5am on Sunday and are expected to reopen early on Sunday afternoon. Bus services in the city centre will be diverted from 5am until at least 2pm; all traffic to the Broadway Shopping Centre will be routed via Croft Street, Shipley Airedale Road and Leeds Road. Jacobs Well Car Park will be closed to the public from 11pm on Saturday to allow parking for race organisers.

Police outriders may close sections of the route for up to 30 minutes as the race progresses from Bradford through Manningham, Frizinghall, Saltaire, Shipley, Lower Baildon, Menston, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Ilkley, Addingham, Silsden, Riddlesden, Keighley, Cross Roads, Haworth, Oxenhope, Denholme, Mountain and Queensbury on its way to the stage finish in Sheffield.

On sections of route where the speed limit is above 40mph, a limit of 20mph will be enforced for the duration of the race. Skipton Road in Silsden will be closed at the junction of Woodside Road from 11am until 3pm; Holden Lane and Silsden Road in Riddlesden will be closed from 10am until 3pm; Main Street, West Lane and Changegate in Haworth will be closed from 10am until 3pm; Station Road, Denholme Road and Long Causeway in Oxenhope/Leeming will be closed from 11am until 3pm.

The race is expected to have left the district by 2.45pm. Residents along the route have been informed of any road closures on the day and the council is urging people not to park on the main race route on the day of the race. Cars parked on the race route during the event may be subject to search and removal by the police.

Phil Barker, Assistant Director for Sport and Culture at Bradford Council, said: “So that the race can pass safely through the district and everyone has a great day watching this spectacular event in safety, we are asking people to plan ahead and have patience on the day.”

The race caravan, a parade which travels along the route ahead of the race, will leave City Park at around 10.10am on Sunday.
