GARY Ballance enhanced an already remarkable record as a first-class captain with yet another hundred, but he could not prevent Yorkshire from being bowled out for 231 against Hampshire on day three of their Specsavers County Championshijp Division One clash at the Ageas Bowl.

Ballance posted his ninth century in 13 matches as a first-class skipper both in England and Zimbabwe, with Yorkshire, replying to 445, advancing from 128-6 overnight.

They are 224 behind at lunch and have failed to avoid the follow-on, although it remains to be seen whether Hampshire will enforce it.

Ballance posted 108 off 291 balls, but he was one of four morning wickets to fall.

Adil Rashid was the first to go as he chipped Brad Wheal to a diving James Vince at mid-off for 34 as the score fell to 154-7 in the 52nd over of the innings.

The seventh-wicket pair had shared 60 inside 21 overs.

David Willey was bowled through the gate by England limited-overs team-mate, left-arm spinner, Liam Dawson, as Yorkshire slipped to 189-8 in the 63rd over.

At that stage, Ballance was 96 not out, and he reached three figures off 190 balls with 11 fours shortly afterwards.

Although, Hampshire were not as potent with the ball this morning, at times erring in line and length, they did catch well.

And Ballance fell to a one-handed slip catch from Sean Ervine as Dawson left Yorkshire at 216-9 in the 72nd.

Reece Topley then had Ben Coad out fending to slip in the 78th over.
