WAITRESSES at a Bradford cafe have been saving up their tips to help dish up meals to the homeless.

So far, staff at Bowling Cafe in Maw Street have delivered meals to Hope Housing's shelter in Barkerend Road but hope to be able to reach out to more charities soon.

Cafe owner Janet Murphy said the idea came about by chance after waitress Toni Gibson was approached by a businesswoman in the area who also helps some of the city's most vulnerable people .

Ms Murphy said: "Since then, we've done about three meal runs. We make them here at the cafe then deliver them. The last meal was Asian starters and a curry. We got extra help this time from two of our customers, Peter Beck and Dale Portman, who run a nearby business DP Refrigeration and gave us a donation.

"We've been saving up our tips from other customers so we can do this and we are looking at contacting other charities, as well as Hope Housing, to see if we can help them too.

"We really appreciate all our customers' support and wanted to let them know their generosity is going towards helping others who are hungry and in need of a good meal."
