RIDERS got on their bikes for a 24-hour endurance challenge at a Bradford temple to encourage more to take up cycling.

The cycling marathon, called the Vaisakhi 24-Hour Turbo Bike Ride, took place on fixed cycles at Ramgarhia Gurdwara Sikh temple in Bolton Road, Bradford.

It was run by Satwant Singh who was one of 19 cyclists who took part in a charity ride to Bradford’s twin city in Roubaix, in northern France, earlier this month.

The riders were members of Bradford Cycling Club who raised money for the Bradford Bulls Foundation and Choices4All, by completing the challenge.

The 24-hour endurance challenge, which started on Friday evening, also raised about £400 for charities the temple supports.

Riders aged between five and 75 take part in up to to one hour stints on the bike each. It was the fourth successive year the group has held the challenge, and those taking part clocked up a total of about 1,000 miles.

Mr Singh said: “It was a great success. We had people from different faiths and communities taking part.”
