THREE young children were passed through a window by their mother following a house fire.

Crews from Bradford and Shipley Fire Station were called to the fire in the bathroom of a house in Midland Road, Frizinghall, at just after 2.20am today.

The fire started when a candle was left unattended in the home's bathroom.

The mother passed the children, two twins girls aged five and a two-and-a-half-year-old boy, down to neighbours through a first floor window, which she managed to escape from herself.

All four were out of the property by the time the fire crews had arrived.

The mother of the children suffered superficial burns to her legs and arms and smoke inhalation. All four were taken to hospital by ambulance.

The children and a neighbour who helped rescue suffered smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene and did not require hospital treatment.

The fire is believed to have started through a candle being left in the bathroom.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said no smoke detectors were fitted in the house.
