A POLICE officer tasked with boosting the number of Black and Minority Ethnic people applying to join the West Yorkshire force has spoken to students at Bradford College.

PC Amjad Ditta gave a presentation to aspiring officers studying public services management at the college’s university centre.

He talked about the application process and the roles available within the service.

PC Ditta, who is the positive action co-ordinator for West Yorkshire Police, said: “It is great to get into college and in front of students to demystify the police and find out what might be holding back people from under-represented groups from applying and what we can do to encourage them to make a career in the police.

“It is a cracking career. Every day brings a new challenge.

“It’s a career like no other.”

First-year student Akdas Farid said: “It was very useful to get more information on the recruitment process.

“I have always been interested in joining the police and I now intend to apply when I have finished my degree.”
