PLANS to help improve the ‘quality of life’ for the six wards in the Shipley Parliamentary constituency have been revealed.

The proposals highlight the priorities in each of the wards following a consultation with residents, police and ward councillors. The ward plans for Baildon, Bingley, Bingley Rural, Shipley, Wharfedale and Windhill and Wrose are for two years from next month.

It will be discussed at Shipley Area Committee’s meeting on Wednesday, and it is recommended that the committee approves and adopts the plan.

Each ward has listed priorities in six categories; including improving the area, traffic and parking, environment, health and wellbeing, young people and general issues such as community engagement work.

The report to the area committee states: “The purpose of the ward plans is to improve the quality of life for people in Shipley. Members in all the six wards and partners will be able to influence their respective ward plans by highlighting any issues and actions that may be needed in the ward.”

Baildon’s ward plan includes working together with police, wardens and the road safety team on joint campaigns to reduce problem parking around town schools and continue with work to clean up the River Aire.

In Bingley Rural, illegal use of off-road vehicles at the Flappit former quarry, near Cullingworth, will be monitored. A partnership to include all schools in the ward, together with the police and road safety team, is also planned. In Bingley, litter louts in the town centre will be targeted and schemes to support community engagement with events including Bingley Music Live will be promoted.

Shipley’s plan includes working to establish a zero tolerance approach to fly-tipping.

In Windhill and Wrose, its plan will aim to tackle the perception of drug use and dealing in specific areas and reassure the community that positive action is being taken against drug dealers and their violent behaviour towards each other.

Wharfedale’s plan includes supporting community clean-ups and waste collection.
