A SHOPPING centre could soon be expanded with new shops and apartments.

A planning application has been submitted to Bradford Council that would see four new units and eight apartments built on the Fieldhead Shopping Centre, off Legrams Lane in Listerhills.

Built on a car park area in front of the centre, the develop would see the ground floor shops, with the eight, three bed flats on the upper floors.

The planning application, by BNP Paribas Securities Services Trust says: “Given the proximity to the University it is likely to be occupied by students.

“The overall and underlying aim for this development has not merely been to produce a functional and generic development, but to aid the regeneration of this part of Bradford by constructing a building to complement the existing street scenes.”

The application says that once the shops are occupied, the development could create eight full time and four part time jobs. The new building will lead to 15 fewer parking spaces at the centre.

Bradford Council will decide on the application next month.
