THE family of a mum fighting bowel cancer say they now have enough money for one more round of treatment in a German clinic after well-wishers responded to their desperate appeal in the Telegraph & Argus.

Sally Major’s husband Liam spoke exclusively to the T&A on Tuesday, revealing the family had run out of money and needed to raise at least £9,000 by today, Thursday, if they were to stay longer at the Hallwang Clinic near Stuttgart, where the 33-year-old mum-of-four from Silsden is receiving cutting-edge therapies, shrinking her tumours.

Yesterday, Mrs Major’s sister, Vanessa Outlaw, said that target had been met.

“We now have enough donations to keep Sally in Germany for one more round of treatment and another one week to two weeks’ stay,” she said.

“This is depending on other treatment needed for infection and rebuilding muscle mass to enable mobility again.

“We can’t thank everyone enough for their kindness and donations. Humanity really is a lovely thing.

“We then still need another £35,000 every three weeks minimum, to continue treatment for foreseeable future.

“Hopefully the money will still keep coming in.”

After Mr Major told how all their finances had been drained and their asbestos removal and surveying company was £12,000 overdrawn, well-wishers across the district rallied round.

The couple have already sold the family car, remortgaged their home and borrowed from family, friends and the bank after running up bills of more than £210,000 so far for the treatments that are not available in England on the NHS. Around £70,000 has come from donations and events.

T&A readers have been contacting the newspaper offering donations while the So Sally Can Wait facebook page has been inundated with fundraising news.

Sally Horn, 29, is holding a fundraising night on Monday at the Bold Privateer in Wrose. She has persuaded five engineers from Bradford-based Bargraphic Machinery to be waxed live online for sponsorship.

Stacey Lacey is organising a family funday on April 13 at the New Vic in Bolton Woods. Details are on the So Sally Can Wait facebook page.

And Sally’s family are holding an Easter fun day on Easter Sunday, April 16, at Shipley District Social Club from noon to 6pm.
