Staff at Myrtle Park Primary School, Bingley, are celebrating after it was named as an outstanding school by watchdog Ofsted.

The inspection report says Myrtle Park is a school that is not content to rest on its laurels and is continually testing itself to improve what it offers to pupils, parents and the community.

According to the report, pupils make remarkable progress because of excellent teaching and imaginative curriculum.

The report also states that pupils make remarkable gains in their personal development because of the excellent provision for their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Myrtle Park, which is celebrating its centenary this year, is one of 13 schools in the district named as outstanding by Ofsted, and is among nearly 70 schools designated either outstanding or good. The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Robin Owens, is touring schools which have been designated outstanding by Ofsted between September 2005 and Easter.

Head teacher David Fox said: "We are proud of Myrtle Park and delighted with this report as we believe it accurately reflects life in the school and the progress we have made."

l Pupils will be dressing up for a parade from their playground to Myrtle Park at 1.15pm on Friday to mark the centenary.
