A BRADFORD charity will look at how to close the “literacy gap” at their annual conference this summer.

Reading Matters, which trains mentors to work with young people to boost their reading skills, is dedicating its June conference to ‘Closing the Literacy Gap.’

The charity, celebrating its 20th year, has put together a line-up of expert speakers who will be sharing their strategies to achieve the best outcomes for all the children and young people you support, regardless of their starting points in life.

Recent figures have shown literacy is one of the areas where young people in Bradford struggle the most.

The conference will be attended by senior leaders, teachers, literacy advisors, librarians and anyone else involved in supporting children’s literacy development.

Keynote speakers are Education Consultant and Writer Matt Bromley, award-winning author Andy Seed, Dr Paula Clarke of the University of Leeds, Deborah Bullivant , Director of Grimm & Co and Rachel Van Riel of Opening the Book.

The conference is being held at Bradford City Football Stadium on Thursday June 29 from 9am till 3.30pm. There will be a choice of workshops, exhibition stands and opportunities for professional networking throughout the day.

Tickets are currently available at the ‘Early Bird’ rate of £85 until March 31 and will cost £100 after that date.
