BRADFORD’S Big Screen is to become a green screen for a year, with members of the public invited to show off their images of the district’s natural wonders.

Keen photographers and filmmakers are being challenged to capture the beauty of local green spaces, from wild moorlands to formal gardens.

Those who take part in the year-long Parks and Places project could see their pictures and videos blossom on City Park’s Big Screen, which will broadcast a daily exhibition at 12.45pm.

A selection of the best entries will also be judged in an end-of-year competition, with many awarded a place in a new permanent public exhibition in the city.

Bradford UNESCO City of Film has teamed up with Bradford Council on the initiative, which was unveiled yesterday to mark the spring equinox.

City of Film director David Wilson said: “Most people have a phone or a camera with them when they take a walk out to the park or the countryside and so it’s a great opportunity to capture some wonderful experiences and moments to share with the public.”

Project leader Bob Thorp, of Bradford Council's department of place, said: “So many of us are proud and passionate about our open spaces whether it’s a local park or the enigmatic moorland surrounding Haworth.

"We chose the first day of spring to launch this project as this is when the natural world starts to stir again after winter.

"We want people of all ages to get involved and have some fun capturing what they enjoy and what moves them about our parks and countryside.”

Entries can be snapped on any type of camera but judges will be particularly interested in images which capture people’s special moments enjoyed while out and about in the fresh air.

Organisers say there are plenty of locations to choose from. More than two-thirds of the Bradford district’s land is classed as rural, green space or woodlands. There are also 36 parks, six of which have Green Flag status.
