GENEROUS students at a Keighley school have rallied round in support of a children's charity.

Beckfoot Oakbank pupils gave-up access to the school's learning resources centre over lunchtime to take part in a fundraising lucky dip.

Prizes ranging from books to football cards were on offer.

The event raised £60 for the Children's Heart Surgery Fund, which supports the congenital heart unit at Leeds General Infirmary.

Karen King, the learning resources centre manager, said: "Several members of the Beckfoot Oakbank community have been directly affected by conditions which have required the help and expertise of the specialist cardiac teams at Leeds. We were delighted to be able to contribute to the fundraising and support their work."

Also, several students helped at a recent gala dinner staged by the fund.

They served a four-course meal and assisted with a raffle.

The dinner raised £1,300.

"Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening and felt that all the students were hard working and had a great attitude," said a spokesman.
