A CHINESE takeaway in Roberttown has been prosecuted over food hygiene offences after rodent droppings were found throughout the premises.

Kwok Lee, who runs Jade Garden, Huddersfield Road, Roberttown, was found guilty at Huddersfield Magistrates court last week of 12 food hygiene offences and fined a total of £2,782.

Kirklees Council environmental health officers carried out inspections at the premises in 2015 and 2016 and found that the takeaway was not clean, there was a failure to protect food from contamination and rodent droppings were found throughout.

Cllr Naheed Mather, cabinet member for enforcement said: “Our environmental health department carries out hundreds of inspections of food businesses across Kirklees each year and most businesses are of a very high standard. It is disappointing that a premises has had to be prosecuted for the poor conditions despite all the advice and support that is available.
