PLANS to build houses on a plot of land in Thornton have been approved by Bradford Council.

The approved plans will see garages on an area of hardstanding at School Green demolished, and three, four bed detached houses built in their place.

The application, by J Khan, said the land was “in a low state of maintenance. Areas are grassed but do not offer quality amenity space.”

On the loss of garages, he added: “There will be loss of storage/parking from the four garages and a loss in the unofficial parking area. It is believed this loss will not be significantly detrimental to the area.

Approving the development last week, planning officers said: “The proposed dwellings will sit comfortably within the surroundings, without causing harm to the character or appearance of the street scene ad wider area, including the setting of the nearby listed buildings, and will improve the appearance of this partly overgrown and disused site.”
