CALDERDALE Council is inviting residents to comment on a new strategy designed to help people become more physically active across the borough.

Physical activity has many health benefits and can significantly reduce the chances of people developing dementia, depression, type 2 diabetes, breast cancer and colon cancer.

However almost 30 per cent of adults in Calderdale are classed as physically inactive, which means that they do less than 30 minutes of moderate activity a week.

Council cabinet member Cllr Faisal Shoukat (pictured) said: “Our Active Calderdale strategy aims to encourage people to be more physically active. It doesn’t have to mean spending hours at the gym, you could take regular walks in the park, go for a swim or enjoy a game of tennis or football with a friend.”
