HEAVY rain has fallen overnight and this morning as Storm Doris heads this way.

Gusts of 50-60 mph are expected widely across the area later.

However, the Met Office has now lowered an earlier amber warning to a yellow warning, advising the public to be aware and keep an eye on the changing forecast instead of being prepared for it to hit.

Travel services could be affected later with some damage to trees and buildings but so far the gusts have yet to pick up and there have been no reported problems on the roads or rail.

The only cancellation at Leeds-Bradford Airport is the 8.40am from London Heathrow but it is not clear if that is weather-related.

Due to the ongoing threat of high winds, National trust property East Riddlesden Hall and grounds has closed as a precaution.

Rain is expected to last until about 4pm today.

The Bradford Bulls u/19 academy fixture against Hull FC at Odsal tonight has been cancelled.

Meanwhile, the weather has already put paid to many local sports fixtures this weekend.

A spokesman for Bradford Council said: "Due to the already wet and heavy condition of grass sports pitches and with further heavy rain forecast, it is regrettable that a decision has been made to close all Bradford Council grass sports pitches for this coming weekend of the 25 and 26 February 2017.

"This is the first such closure the council has had to make this season and we are hopeful that fixtures will be back to normal next weekend."
