A SPEEDING driver caught on camera showing a “blatant disregard” for road safety could have caused “absolute carnage”, it has been claimed.

The driver of a white Audi was captured on the dashboard camera of an unnamed motorist performing an “outrageous” manoeuvre on the slip-road that joins the M62 to the M606 at Chain Bar.

The footage shows the Audi appear in the left lane of the two-lane carriageway before cutting through a small gap between two cars and speeding off into the distance.

The driver whose camera captured the incident - which happened last Saturday at 12.30pm - was in the car with his wife and daughter and travelling at “65 to 70mph”.

He said: “If he had waited two or three seconds, I would have been past that other car and would have moved out of his way.

“But the way he came through that gap. Another one second and that gap would not have existed and it would have been carnage.

“It was frightening speeds. He must have been doing 90mph as he went through that gap.

“And as you watch the video, he just disappears. And you can see in the distance he does it again - he undertakes two lanes and back to lane three as he continued up the M606.

“He has just left me behind. It must have been going at 130-plus to disappear at that rate.”

He added: “It is outrageous driving - and so close to being absolute carnage. It is mindblowing.

“I had seen him in the mirror. His closing speed coming up behind me was crazy. If I had pulled in to the left to get out of the way, he would have hit me.

The man said his wife and daughter could not believe what happened.

“It was just disbelief,” he said. “They both saw it. It was just absolute disbelief - a head-shaker moment.”

Sergeant Steven Suggitt said: “This is yet another case of a poor standard of driving and blatant disregard for safety on the motorway network. We have viewed this footage and will now be making enquiries to trace who the driver was and deal appropriately with them.

“We continue to encourage members of the public to report these incidents to the police and any person wishing to submit footage of bad driving in the Bradford district can do so by email to bd.steerside@westyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.”
