BRADFORD’S first awards ceremony celebrating the district’s LGBT community is being held tomorrow.

The winners of the inaugural Bradford Pride Awards will be announced at a special evening ceremony in Bradford City Hall’s banqueting hall. A total of 32 nominees are in the running.

Writer, artist and activist Nicola Field, who was an original member of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners, an alliance supporting the striking British miners in the 1980s, will be the keynote speaker.

Councillor Abdul Jabar, portfolio holder for neighbourhoods and community safety, said: “We are delighted to be acknowledging the amazing people who make a huge difference to Bradford District’s LGBT community.

“These individuals and groups have played a significant role in making the community vibrant and supportive.”
